The Little Merm-- Er, Naga?

Jiro carefully plucked a branch from the ground, depositing it safely to one side.  His forked tongue flickered out from between ripe lips, applying needed moisture to them.  ‘Not a sound…  Not a sound…’ He chanted mentally, pressing his belly downward.  Smooth white scales brushed against the leaf-littered terrain, the strong muscles on his underside propelling his weight forward.  His body moved in languid side-to-side movements, occasionally stopping so that he could remove potential hazards.
